December Holiday Luncheon 2018

Here we are once more, speeding down the tunnel to a fast approaching 2019.  This year was a great year for FWHR and we capped it off by again by welcoming Diamond Hill Elementary to come sing for us.  We have supported DHE for years and every December their choir, the Singing Eagles, come to sing for our attendees at our December Holiday Luncheon to spread cheer and good spirits.  At this event, we raffle off donated gifts that attendees bring to the luncheon, to which all proceeds go to DHE.  This year we had our event at Pinstripes, a newly opened venue known for bowling and bocce, surrounded by the alluring Shops at Clearfork shopping center.  As the event began, the rain had just ended and the sun was shining, which provided a warm reception to our members and guests.

After the kids sang and departed, outgoing President, Justin Dorsey, recapped our 2018 achievements and recognized outgoing board members for their dedication and service to FWHR over the years.  I had just sat down to eat—one bite!—when Justin called me up to take the presidential oath of office.  I did, and we all had a few laughs as we gave Justin gifts and recognized his presidential achievements these past two years.  After the 2019 Board took their oaths of office, we began the raffle.  Brad Smith and Jesse Owens were once again the celebrity MCs as they entertained us all while they raffled off all the gifts.  They're always a hoot, I say because they've had decades of practice, so it's a joy seeing these two in action.

This year we caught up with modern technology that allowed our monthly luncheon attendees to donate online to DHE during the registration process.  This new method of collection, in addition to the donation buckets we place on the tables at every luncheon, contributed to a record amount donated to DHE in 2018.  The Holiday Luncheon alone raised $4116; all told with the rest of the 2018 contributions, we raised $5047 for DHE.  If last year's $3979 was a record, we absolutely shattered it in 2018.  You! shattered it, FWHR members and guests.  Diamond Hill will be so happy that we can present them with such a generous gift.  Thank you all for a bountiful year, and may we all have continued success in 2019.

Happy New Year,

Jon Evans

President
